UNICEF Malawi is seeking a dynamic and committed professional to join its team as a Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist. Under the guidance of the Chief of PME, you will provide technical leadership and support to strengthen results-based management across the office. You will focus on enhancing the design and implementation of the Country Programme monitoring and evaluation framework in line with UNICEF and national standards, while ensuring robust monitoring systems are in place to support high-quality data collection, validation, and analysis across programme sectors. You will analyze data and contribute to the development of high-quality corporate and donor reports that inform evidence-based decision-making. In addition, you will support the planning, commissioning and utilization of evaluations to improve programme performance and learning, work closely with government and partners to strengthen national data and monitoring systems, and build the capacity of staff and partners in monitoring, evaluation and data use to foster a strong results-based culture.

As a Monitoring & Evaluation Specialist, you will play a critical role in advancing evidence-based programming and accountability across the country office. You will be at the forefront of driving high-quality monitoring systems, data analysis, and knowledge management to inform decision-making and enhance programme effectiveness.
Working within the Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) team, you will support the design and implementation of robust M&E frameworks, ensuring timely and accurate tracking of results. Your work will contribute to generating actionable insights, strengthening learning, and improving the impact of programmes for children, adolescents, and women across Malawi.
Minimum requirements:
Education: Master or equivalent (Advanced University Degree) in social sciences, statistics, planning development, planning, and any other related fields.
Work Experience: At least 5 years of relevant professional work experience in monitoring and evaluation, data analysis, or programme performance management. Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing M&E frameworks, including indicators, baselines, and targets. Experience supporting programme planning processes, including annual work planning and review processes. Experience in results-based management (RBM) and performance monitoring frameworks.
Skills: Proven ability in data analysis, data quality assurance, and use of evidence to inform programme decisions. Experience working with national data systems and government counterparts, particularly in the Malawi context or similar settings. Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality analytical reports, dashboards, and briefs for decision-making.
Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.
Desirables:
Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
At least one instance of exposure to emergency programming, including preparedness planning. Active involvement in a humanitarian crisis response programme preferred.
Experience working with UN agencies, NGOs, or international development organizations is an asset.
Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
