Reporting to the Supervisor – Network Surveillance & Fault Management (CORE/VAS/ICS) in the Networks Division, the Network Surveillance Engineer will be responsible for executing network surveillance and fault management processes to ensure the highest availability of network elements. The role involves monitoring network performance, detecting faults, and ensuring timely escalation and resolution of major and critical incidents affecting CORE, VAS, and ICS platforms.
Responsibilities or duties
- Monitor alarms for critical CORE/VAS/ICS network elements and ensure alarm reports are produced and circulated to relevant divisions.
- Execute continuous network event monitoring to detect major and critical incidents in line with established incident handling procedures.
- Log incidents in the Trouble Ticketing (TT) system for assignment, tracking, escalation, and closure of major and critical network incidents.
- Provide first-line maintenance support on CORE/VAS/ICS incidents where applicable.
- Ensure timely communication with the Supervisor – Network Surveillance & Fault Management on all major and critical incidents.
- Coordinate communication with Customer Care and ESOC on all major and customer-affected incidents.
- Provide accurate details on affected services and assess the impact of incidents.
- Prepare periodic network status summary reports and submit them to Technical Operations and Networks.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology, Telecommunications, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
- Practical experience in mobile communications and IP-based network environments.
- Experience working in a Network Operations Centre (NOC) or Network Management Centre environment.
CORE COMPETENCIES
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage critical incidents effectively.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- High attention to detail and teamwork orientation.
- Fluency in English and Chichewa.
