About IHAM

Islamic Health Association of Malawi (IHAM) is a local Non-Governmental Organization registered with the Registrar General, CONGOMA, and NGO Board. IHAM is dedicated to improving healthcare services in Malawi in conformity with Islamic teachings, serving all Malawians irrespective of faith or economic status.

IHAM operates 23 health facilities across the South and Central Regions of Malawi, located in urban, remote, and hard-to-reach areas.

Job Summary

IHAM Secretariat invites applications for the position of Program Officer. The role provides technical support and assists in the implementation and coordination of program activities, particularly for multi-sectoral partnerships and capacity development of local partners.

Purpose of the Job

To support effective planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of IHAM programmes while strengthening partnerships and ensuring compliance with donor and organizational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of work plans and ensure adherence to approved budgets
  • Build and maintain relationships with IHAM facilities and programme partners
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to strengthen partnerships with NGOs, government agencies, and community organizations
  • Participate in developing project implementation plans, training manuals, curricula, and SOPs
  • Assist in developing and monitoring annual work plans, programme initiatives, and budgets
  • Support project management, coordination, data management, and communication with partners
  • Support preparation and timely submission of quarterly and annual partner reports
  • Assist in donor and government report writing and programme updates
  • Participate in project monitoring and supportive supervision visits
  • Represent IHAM at meetings, technical working groups, and relevant forums
  • Ensure programme resources are utilized in line with donor policies and procedures
  • Coordinate capacity-building initiatives for member health facilities
  • Perform any other duties deemed reasonable for the post

Required Qualifications, Experience & Skills

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Project Management or a related field from a recognized institution
  • Desirable: Specialized training in planning, results-based management, and/or project management
  • In-depth knowledge of planning, budgeting, and monitoring frameworks

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in program support, preferably in an NGO or community development setting
  • Desirable: Experience working with international organizations in planning, budgeting, monitoring, and assessment

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of results-based management in the health sector
  • Technical, analytical, conceptual, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in both quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and reprioritize under pressure
  • Innovative problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills, including report and presentation writing
  • Assist in the development of work plans and ensure adherence to approved budgets
