We are currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Part-Time Accountant to support our financial operations, including administrative and research grant funds.
Position Summary:
We are looking for a qualified accountant to work 4-8 hours per week on a part-time basis, with hours increasing as our portfolio grows. We anticipate but cannot guarantee that this position will transition to being full-time within 6-12 months.
The ideal candidate should have experience in managing donor-funded project and/or research grants, be highly proficient in QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. This role will involve financial tracking, reporting, and ensuring compliance with funding requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using QuickBooks
- Manage and track expenditures across multiple research grant budgets
- Prepare financial reports for internal use and donor reporting
- Reconcile bank statements and other financial documents
- Assist with audits and ensure compliance with local financial regulations
- Collaborate with program and admin teams to support budget monitoring
- Maintain confidentiality and data integrity in all financial matters
Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum of a Diploma in Accounting, but a bachelor’s degree or CPA qualification is preferred
- At least 2 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a grant-funded or NGO environment
- Strong proficiency in QuickBooks and MS Excel
- Knowledge of Malawi’s financial and tax regulations
- Excellent attention to detail and strong time management skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
