Background

Lumina CL is looking for a global client is engaged in tariff classification advisory services and requires the technical expertise of a qualified Mechanical Engineer to provide professional opinions on the function, design, and application of mechanical components associated with agricultural machinery. This is a part-time, fully remote position that can be performed alongside other professional commitments.

Objective

To engage a part-time Mechanical Engineer on a monthly basis to review technical documentation of mechanical parts and provide expert opinion to support Harmonized System (HS Code) tariff classification of imported goods.

Scope of Work

The engineer will be required to:

• Review technical drawings, photographs, part specifications, and other supporting documentation as provided by the consultancy
• Provide clear technical explanations of the function and purpose of each component under review
• Confirm the type of machinery or equipment each part is associated with
• Opine on whether each part is essential and specific to a particular machine or category of machinery
• Prepare a concise written technical report

Deliverables

• A brief written technical report for each assignment, delivered within an agreed turnaround time
• Availability for virtual Q&A sessions upon request

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
• Demonstrable experience with agricultural machinery, industrial equipment, or automotive components
• Strong ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
• Knowledge of or exposure to customs, trade, or tariff classification processes is an added advantage
• Registration with a recognized engineering body (e.g., Malawi Board of Engineers) is preferred

Remuneration

The engineer will be paid a fixed monthly fee of MWK 100,000 plus withdrawal fees.

Duration and Extension

The initial assignment is for one (1) month. The assignment may be extended on a month-to-month basis by mutual agreement, based on workload requirements and satisfactory performance.

Working Arrangements

This is a fully remote, part-time position. The engineer is expected to manage their own time and complete assigned tasks within agreed deadlines. All communication and document sharing will be conducted virtually through email or other agreed digital platforms. There is no requirement to be exclusively available to us during the contract period. The assignment will require a signature of a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).
