Saint John of God Hospitaller Services Malawi is a non-profit, faith-based healthcare organization established in 1994 to contribute to the development of health for all Malawians, including the most vulnerable, marginalized, and excluded groups. With operations in Lilongwe and Mzuzu, the organization is a key provider of tertiary and community-based mental health services, early intervention, inclusive education for children with disabilities, vocational training, elderly care, psychosocial support, rehabilitation services, and university-level training in health-related disciplines.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician will support the delivery of pharmaceutical services under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Assist in the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications in accordance with prescriptions and hospital policies
  • Maintain accurate patient medication records and pharmacy inventory
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of pharmaceutical products
  • Support medication management and stock control
  • Monitor and report on drug usage and stock levels
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and professional standards

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Diploma in Pharmacy Technology or equivalent from a recognized institution
  • Registration with the relevant professional regulatory body
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Willingness to work with people with mental health conditions
  • Commitment to the organization’s Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy

Experience needed

  • Minimum of 1–2 years’ relevant work experience, preferably in a hospital setting

Any other provided details (e.g., benefits, work environment, team info, or additional notes)

  • Knowledge of psychiatric medications will be an added advantage
