Job Purpose
To install, maintain, inspect, repair, and troubleshoot plumbing systems and equipment to ensure the efficient supply of clean water and proper disposal of wastewater. The Plumber is responsible for maintaining plumbing infrastructure in a safe, reliable, and cost-effective manner while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and building regulations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Install pipes, fittings, valves, taps, pumps, toilets, sinks, and other plumbing fixtures.
- Conduct routine inspections of plumbing systems to identify defects before failures occur.
- Perform preventive maintenance on plumbing fixtures and equipment.
- Clean and service drains, pipes, water tanks, and related infrastructure.
- Replace worn-out or damaged plumbing components. Diagnose plumbing faults and determine appropriate repair methods.
- Repair leaking pipes, burst water lines, blocked drains, faulty valves, leaking taps, toilets, sinks, and pumps.
- Respond promptly to plumbing emergencies to minimize disruption and property damage.
- Detect and report water losses or leakages.
- Promote efficient water usage and conservation.
- Follow occupational health and safety procedures.
- Properly use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Record maintenance activities and repairs performed.
- Prepare reports on plumbing defects requiring major repairs.
- Perform any other duties assigned by management.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Percentage of plumbing faults resolved within target timelines.
- Reduction in water leakages and wastage.
- Compliance with safety standards.
- Accuracy and completeness of maintenance records.
Qualifications
- Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent.
- Diploma or Certificate in Plumbing and Pipe Fitting from a reputable institution is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years’ practical plumbing experience in commercial, industrial, institutional, or residential environments.
- Experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems.
Personal Attributes
- Honest and trustworthy.
- Reliable and dependable.
- Physically fit and able to perform manual work.
- Self-motivated.
- Able to work under pressure.
- Willing to work outside normal working hours when required.
