Job Overview

The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to join the Faculty of Agriculture as **Professor, Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer, Lecturer, Assistant Lecturer, or Staff Associate in Environmental Engineering**.

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, consultancy, curriculum development, and community engagement in Environmental Engineering. The role also includes supervising student research, developing externally funded projects, and supporting the University's academic and research agenda.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Develop and teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Environmental Engineering.
  • Prepare and update course outlines, instructional materials, and practical exercises.
  • Conduct lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions, seminars, and fieldwork.
  • Evaluate student learning through assignments, examinations, projects, and practical assessments.

Curriculum Development

  • Design and review curricula to reflect current engineering practices and technological advancements.
  • Promote innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and learning.

Research and Scholarship

  • Conduct high-quality research in Environmental Engineering and related fields.
  • Publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present research findings at national and international conferences.
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
  • Secure research grants and consultancy opportunities.

Student Mentorship

  • Provide academic guidance and career mentorship to students.
  • Support students' academic, research, and professional development.

Community Engagement

  • Participate in community outreach and professional training initiatives.
  • Provide technical expertise through consultancy and public engagement activities.

Quality Assurance

  • Participate in programme reviews and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies and accreditation standards.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Serve on departmental, faculty, and university committees.
  • Support departmental planning and academic administration.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the University.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • A **Master's degree in Environmental Engineering or a closely related field** from a recognized university for appointment at the **Assistant Lecturer** level.
  • A **PhD in Environmental Engineering or a closely related field** from a recognized university for appointment at the **Lecturer** level and above.

Other Requirements

  • Applicants for **Staff Associate** positions must possess a Bachelor's degree in a closely related field with at least a **Credit** from a reputable university.
  • Candidates completing a Master's degree should indicate their expected completion date.
  • A minimum of **three (3) years' relevant experience**, preferably in university teaching or curriculum development.
  • Applicants for **Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Professor** positions must demonstrate publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals and evidence of attracting research funding.

Terms and Conditions

Successful candidates will be appointed on an initial **two-year contract**, with the possibility of permanent appointment subject to satisfactory performance and compliance with the LUANAR Staff Regulations and Conditions of Service (2023).
