The Program Manager will support the coordination, implementation, and monitoring of Jhpiego’s MNCH-N program in Malawi. This role works closely with the Project Director, technical teams, consortium partners, and stakeholders to ensure activities are aligned with work plans, donor requirements, and national health priorities. The Program Manager also contributes to reporting, budgeting, and operational support to help achieve program objectives.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
- Provide day-to-day programmatic support to the MCGL program to ensure technical and financial integrity of the program to achieve program goals, objectives, and targets. Ensure the setting of high standards for program implementation.
- Support the Project Director and technical teams in the overall coordination and management of MNCH-N activities.
- Assist in the development of detailed implementation plans, annual work plans, activity schedules, and operational budgets.
- Ensure project activities are implemented in compliance with donor regulations, organizational policies, and national guidelines.
- Coordinate with finance and operations teams to track expenditure and ensure adherence to approved budgets.
- Support performance monitoring and contribute to internal reviews and team learning.
Implementation and Coordination
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among consortium partners, regional teams, and stakeholders.
- Monitor program progress against established targets and timelines; identify bottlenecks and support timely solutions.
- Contribute to the writing section of the program report
- Provide logistical and administrative support for program-related meetings, workshops, field visits, and events.
- Assist in coordinating field activities and ensuring alignment with national health strategies and district-level priorities.
Communications and Knowledge Management
- Contribute to the drafting and review of high-quality reports, presentations, and documentation for donors and internal stakeholders.
- Support the development and dissemination of success stories, lessons learned, and best practices.
- Maintain organized records of program activities, outputs, and deliverables.
- Assist in implementing the project’s communication and knowledge-sharing strategy.
Strategic Planning and Development
- Identify opportunities for program improvement, innovation, and expansion within the MNCH-N landscape.
- Support proposal development and strategic planning for future MNCH-N initiatives.
- Contribute to the design of interventions that enhance maternal, newborn, and child health outcomes.
- Participate in internal and external planning meetings to align program strategies with evolving priorities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, International Development, Social Sciences, Business Administration, or related field. A Master’s degree is highly desirable.
- Certificate in Program Management e.g PMD PRO and others will be desirable
- Minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in program management, coordination, or operational support for international development or public health projects.
- Demonstrated experience working with donor-funded projects, with an understanding of project cycles and reporting requirements.
- Experience in coordinating diverse teams and managing relationships with multiple partners, preferably in Malawi or similar low-resource contexts.
- Proven ability to support large-scale programs and manage competing priorities effectively.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for reporting, correspondence, and presentations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other relevant project management software.
- Familiarity with financial management principles related to program budgeting and expenditure tracking.
- Basic understanding of monitoring and evaluation principles as they apply to tracking program progress and outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines under pressure.
- High level of personal initiative, adaptability, and ability to work both independently and as a collaborative team member.
- Commitment to the mission and values of the organization and the objectives of the MNCH-N program
- Language: Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Professional proficiency in Chichewa is required. Other local Malawian languages are desirable.
- Willingness and ability to travel to all project implementation areas across the three regions of Malawi
