Illovo Sugar (Malawi) plc is the country’s leading producer of raw, refined and specialty sugars; employing more than 9000 employees. Illovo Sugar (Malawi) plc is part of Illovo Sugar Africa Group; a wholly-owned subsidiary of Associated British Foods plc (ABF).

Responsibilities or duties

Lead the full technical, financial, and operational delivery of capital and improvement projects, ensuring delivery to scope, cost, quality, and schedule.

Plan, structure, and execute projects.

Identify improvement opportunities, develop business cases, and engage stakeholders to deliver strong operational and financial outcomes.

Coordinate and align internal teams and external contractors to ensure adequate resourcing, capability, and service-level compliance.

Manage project scope, schedule, cost changes, risks, procurement challenges, and budget performance.

Provide technical guidance on capital planning, equipment and technology selection, procurement, and cost estimation processes.

Ensure quality compliance through contractor pre-qualification, tender evaluations, risk management, and verification of technical deliverables.

Drive effective commissioning, handover, and integration of projects into operations.

Promote and adhere to Illovo’s procedures, policies, and guidelines, including those relating to SHEQ, Competition Law, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Experience needed

Minimum 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing or agricultural project environment.

Demonstrated experience in managing and implementing large-scale projects.

Familiarity with OCMS or similar capital planning/project tracking systems would be an advantage.
