ABOUT FDYD

The Forum for the Development of Youth with Disabilities (FDYD) is a Malawian disability rights organisation committed to promoting the inclusion, empowerment, and equal participation of young persons with disabilities.

The organisation works with government, civil society, communities, and development partners to advance disability-inclusive development, education, livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, and advocacy.

JOB OVERVIEW

FDYD is seeking a qualified and experienced Project Officer to coordinate the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of disability-inclusive community development projects while working closely with Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), government institutions, communities, and development partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of project activities.
  • Work closely with OPDs, government departments, community structures, and other stakeholders.
  • Promote disability inclusion across all project activities.
  • Facilitate community awareness meetings, training sessions, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Prepare work plans, budgets, and narrative reports.
  • Conduct field monitoring visits and document project progress.
  • Support monitoring, evaluation, data collection, and analysis.
  • Ensure safeguarding, accountability, and compliance with organisational and donor requirements.
  • Represent FDYD at meetings, workshops, and coordination forums.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Special Needs Education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience implementing community-based development projects.
  • Previous experience with a Disabled People’s Organisation (DPO) or Organisation of Persons with Disabilities (OPD) (mandatory).
  • Knowledge of disability rights, disability inclusion, and Malawi’s disability policy framework.
  • Experience working with government, development partners, and local communities.
  • Strong report writing, communication, facilitation, and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and travel extensively within Malawi.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Commitment to disability inclusion and human rights.
  • Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Chichewa.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
