The Malawi-Liverpool Wellcome Programme (MLW) is a world-class health research institution committed to improving health through research, capacity building, and strong partnerships.
The Malawi–Liverpool–Wellcome Programme (MLW) is seeking to hire a Senior Assistant Accountant who shall be based within the Finance department and reporting to the Financial Accountant.
The position is tenable at MLW head offices in Blantyre.
POSITION FUNCTION (PURPOSE)
The Senior Assistant Accountant will be responsible for supporting the Finance department through maintaining proper and accurate accounting records, suppliers and general ledger reconciliations, posting financial transactions in ERP, checking supporting documents and processing payments, generating purchase orders.
The position will also deputize the Financial Accountant and supervise Assistant Accountants
Responsibilities or duties
- Generate purchase orders from purchase requisitions in liaison with the Financial Accountant.
- Posting of purchase orders, invoices, journals and other transactions in ERP system.
- Conducting MLW Stakeholders Finance processes trainings.
- Focal contact in Mobile money payments – responsible for updating MLW’s mobile money wallets and extracting reports for booking and reconciliations.
- Ensure that accounts payables control account is properly reconciled.
- Managing programme and projects petty cash and ensure that replenishments are supported by proper liquidations and reconciliations.
- Conduct monthly petty cash and support them with activity reports.
- To prepare payment vouchers and file them properly.
- To ensure recharges are charged to projects in a timely manner.
- Reconciliation of specified general ledger accounts
- Any other duties assigned by the FA or Finance Manager (department) that may be deemed reasonable.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting
KEY COMPETENCIES / SKILLS
- Strong financial acumen and analytical skills.
- High attention to detail and donor compliance.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel.
Experience needed
Experience:
- Minimum of three years’ experience in Finance/Accounting.
- Generate purchase orders from purchase requisitions in liaison with the Financial Accountant.
- Posting of purchase orders, invoices, journals and other transactions in ERP system.
