About Innovations for Poverty Action:

Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is an international non-profit research organization dedicated to discovering and promoting effective solutions to global poverty problems. IPA works in partnership with development partners and academic researchers to create and evaluate approaches and potential solutions to poverty problems using randomized evaluations in the fields of health, education, microfinance, governance and agriculture. We also mobilize and support these decision-makers to use these solutions to build better programs and policies at scale.

About the Project and the position

The project involves phone interviews to collect data from eligible respondents. Enumerators or field officers will be stationed at a call center and will complete assigned number of calls each day. The data will be collected electronically using SurveyCTO installed on tablets

Reporting to the Field manager, the Senior Field Officer will primarily be responsible for managing the teams collecting data for this study. He/she will be responsible for allocation of tasks, ensuring adherence to survey protocols and conduct quality checks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and schedule interviews with study participants and distribute tasks to the field officers.
  • Ensure that all the teams have all necessary materials/tools required for data collection. These must be made available on time.
  • Ensure completion of scheduled activities each day in a timely manner including keeping logs of work accomplished while rigorously following the study protocol with minimal supervision.
  • Complete data collection and data quality checks by sitting in interview sessions or phone call interviews and ensure that data integrity is always maintained and general adherence to survey procedures.
  • The SFO will provide feedback on SurveyCTO programming, assist in troubleshooting issues related to the questionnaire and other survey tools as they arise, assist in survey translations, overseeing, monitoring, and when needed, conduct data collection.
  • Communicate challenges/concerns/emergencies promptly to the project management team to complete the assigned task in a timely manner.
  • Conduct spot checks, back checks, sit-ins, listen to audio audits, and give feedback to the field officers and management team that will inform and monitor improvements.
  • Other tasks assigned by the project management team.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • A bachelor’s degree or a diploma recognized in Malawi with two years’ experience.
  • Prior experience managing enumerators conducting phone surveys
  • Excellent oral and written communication in English and Chichewa.
  • Prior work experience in data collection using SurveyCTO and managing electronic data collection systems.
  • Fluency in Chichewa or Tumbuka langauges.
  • Prior experience leading data collection teams and demonstrated ability to manage data collection at various levels (planning, collecting, backchecking and reporting)
  • Flexible, self-motivated, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently and a team player.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word) and google sheets.

Preferred:

  • Experience in conducting data quality checks for quantitative and qualitative surveys.
  • Experience doing phone interviews.
  • Completed Human Subjects Protection certification by Collaborative Institutional Training Institute (CITI)
