INTRODUCTION
The Central Medical Stores Trust (CMST) is responsible for Procurement, Warehousing, Sales and Distribution of adequate, affordable and approved and quality medicines and medical supplies to all public health facilities in Malawi.
CMST is seeking to recruit transformative and visionary persons to support it to effectively fulfill its mandate across its establishments in Mzuzu, Lilongwe and Blantyre as follows:
SENIOR WAREHOUSE ASSISTANT
Job Title: Senior Warehouse Assistant
Job Grade: MS7
Location: Various Duty Stations
Responsible to : Pharmacy Technician (MS6)
Responsible for : Warehouse Assistant (MS9)
No. of Positions : Three (3)
Purpose of the Job
To oversee warehouse storage operations and ; ensure that medicines and medical supplies are stored, handled and managed in accordance with established warehouse procedures, Good Storage Practices and organisational policies.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assessing available warehouse space and preparing storage and stacking plans in accordance with WHO Good Storage Practices and CMST procedures.
- Ensuring that medicines and medical supplies are stored under appropriate temperature, security and environmental conditions.
- Supervising warehouse cleaning activities and preparing cleaning schedules.
- Ensuring accurate maintenance of stock cards, bin cards and inventory records.
- Conducting routine physical inventory checks and stock verification exercises in consultation with Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
- Producing stock status and inventory reports.
- Supervising warehouse assistants and providing on-the-job training and coaching.
- Ensuring compliance with warehouse SOPs and inventory management procedures.
- Supporting stock receiving, storage, picking and dispatch operations as required.
Job and Person Specifications
Qualifications
- Certificate in Supply Chain Management, Stores Management, Inventory Management, Logistics, Warehouse Management or related field from a recognised institution.
- Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent.
Experience
- A minimum of two (2) years’ relevant experience in the storage and handling of commodities within a large warehouse environment.
- Experience in handling health commodities, including HIV/AIDS products, will be an added advantage.
Skills and Personal Attributes
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Good numerical and stock-control skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of inventory records management procedures.
- Good communication skills in both written and spoken English.
- Team leadership and supervisory skills.
