Background
Lotus Africa Ltd (LAL) is an Australian Stock Exchange (ASX)-listed uranium producer. LAL is ramping up production at Kayelekera Uranium Mine while focusing on sustainability and business improvement.
The company seeks to recruit a suitably qualified and motivated individual for the post of Surveyor at Kayelekera Uranium Mine in Karonga.
Reporting to the Mining Superintendent, the postholder will use advanced surveying technology to assess ground levels, calculate earthwork quantities, stake out blast patterns, supervise junior staff and communicate with management.
Main responsibilities
- Conduct field surveying using electronic total stations, precise levels, GPS technology, and computers.
- Perform check-surveying of existing ground levels with total stations.
- Calculate quantities for bulk earthworks, including mining activities, roads, trenches, etc. for monthly or final certification.
- Stake out blast patterns accurately.
- Supervise junior staff by delegating workloads based on skill level required.
- Liaise and make consultations with management as necessary.
Requirements and qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying, Geotechnical Engineering or its equivalent from an internationally recognized institution of higher learning.
- Previous experience in surveying.
- The person should be comfortable to work with equipment from various manufacturers.
- Computer literacy.
- Elementary or Advanced Surveying Certificate
- Knowledge of opencast mining practices is preferred.
- Valid Malawi driver’s license, class B
- Must be medically fit
