As a member of our Tax practice, you’ll join a globally integrated team that advises organizations across the full tax life cycle. Our work spans Global Compliance and Reporting, International Tax, Transfer Pricing and Indirect Tax, helping clients respond to evolving tax requirements and make informed business decisions.

The opportunity

We are seeking a Tax Associate to join our Tax team in Malawi. This role is suited to candidates who are looking to build a career in tax, broaden their technical exposure and take ownership of client work with appropriate coaching and support.

 

You will support local and multinational clients across different industries on a range of tax matters, working closely with experienced EY professionals and wider engagement teams.

Your key responsibilities

  • Support tax compliance and reporting engagements, including corporate tax, VAT, withholding tax, tax returns, computations and related client deliverables.
  • Assist with advisory and technical work across Global Compliance and Reporting, International Tax, Transfer Pricing and Indirect Tax.
  • Conduct tax research, analyse legislation and guidance, and prepare clear technical memos, reports and client correspondence.
  • Work with clients, engagement teams and EY colleagues to deliver timely, high-quality work while escalating risks or issues appropriately.
  • Build strong working relationships by understanding client needs and communicating professionally throughout engagements.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to interpret tax legislation and financial information.
  • Foundational knowledge of corporate tax, VAT, withholding tax, transfer pricing principles and Malawi tax requirements.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain tax matters professionally.
  • Good organisation, time management and ability to deliver quality work within agreed timelines.
  • A collaborative mindset, professionalism, integrity and willingness to learn across different tax areas.

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Taxation, Law, Business Administration, or another relevant business-related field.
  • Relevant academic, internship or work experience in tax, accounting, audit, finance or a related professional services environment.
  • Knowledge of, or strong interest in developing knowledge of, Malawi tax requirements and related filings.
  • Strong English communication skills and the ability to work under pressure while maintaining quality.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Progress towards, or completion of, a relevant professional qualification such as ACCA or an equivalent qualification.
  • Exposure to multinational clients, tax authority matters, cross-border tax, transfer pricing or indirect tax advisory work.
  • A proactive approach to learning, professional development and building a long-term career in tax.
