Background
Illovo Sugar (Malawi) plc is the country's leading producer of raw, refined and specialty sugars; employing more than 9000 employees. Illovo Sugar (Malawi) plc is part of Illovo Sugar Africa Group; a wholly-owned subsidiary of Associated British Foods plc (ABF).
Responsibilities
- Provide Agriculture Management with technical advice on precision processes to sustain and improve sugarcane production.
- Drive the modernization and optimization of farming systems through new engineering innovations to improve yield and production costs.
- Support the adoption and embedding of agreed precision agriculture standards, frameworks, and processes across all farms.
- Offer specialized engineering support and advice to Grower organizations.
- Direct the implementation of key activities, including surveying, variable rate application, land use planning, drainage, land preparation, and mechanized ratoon maintenance.
- Manage the selection, design, and coordination of maintenance systems for precision agriculture equipment to ensure reliability.
- Ensure all activities strictly adhere to company policies, including SHERQ, Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC), and Competition Law.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a technical mechanization specialist.
- Good business acumen and agricultural engineering expertise, with ability to anticipate and interpret changes impacting on functional area.
