The company has an urgent requirement for the following Vacancies tenable at its Head Office in Lilongwe.

Job Title: Tyre Fitter (1)

Nature of Contract: One Year Fixed Term

Duty Station: Lilongwe

Reporting to: Workshop Manager

Department: Workshop

Job Summary

The Tyre Fitter is responsible for inspecting, repairing and maintaining tyres on plant vehicles, heavy equipment and workshop machinery. The role ensures all equipment tyres are fitted safely, maintained to manufacturer standards and compliant with workplace safety regulations to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect tyres for wear, damage, and proper inflation across plant workshop vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Remove, repair, and replace tyres, including tubeless and solid tyres.
  • Perform vulcanizing, patching, and retreading procedures when applicable.
  • Balance and align wheels to manufacturer specifications.
  • Conduct scheduled tyre maintenance checks to minimize breakdowns and extend tyre life.
  • Keep records of tyre usage, rotation schedules, and replacement history.
  • Respond to tyre-related breakdowns and carry out repairs promptly.
  • Diagnose root causes for tyre damage (overloading, misalignment, improper inflation) and implement corrective actions.
  • Report equipment faults or safety concerns.
  • Assist with emergency breakdown tyre services on-site or in-field.
  • Follow safe work procedures, risk assessments and lockout/tagout processes.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of workshop area.
  • Ensure correct torque settings on wheel nuts and secure fitment.
  • Conduct regular tyre pressure checks and maintain proper inflation levels.

Experience

3+ years of experience as a tyre technician in an industrial or plant workshop environment.

Qualification

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in tyre fitting/repair preferred.
  • Physically fit to handle heavy tyres and workshop conditions.
  • Strong attention to safety and preventive practices.
