Saint John of God Hospitaller Services Malawi is a non-profit, faith-based healthcare organization established in 1994 to contribute to the development of health for all Malawians, including the most vulnerable, marginalized, and excluded groups.

With operations in Lilongwe and Muzu, the organization is a key provider of tertiary and community-based mental health services, early intervention, inclusive education for children with disabilities, vocational training, elderly care, psychosocial support, rehabilitation services, and university-level training in health-related disciplines.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Programs Manager, the Institute of Vocational Training Coordinator will provide strategic leadership and overall management of the Institute of Vocational Training. The successful candidate will ensure effective planning. implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of vocational training programs while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and fostering productive relationships with key stakeholders, including TEVETA and the Ministry of Labour.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Provide leadership and management of the Institute’s academic, administrative, and operational activities.
  • Coordinate the development, implementation, and review of vocational training programmes.
  • Ensure compliance with all TEVETA accreditation and quality assurance requirements.
  • Liaise and maintain effective working relationships with TEVETA, the Ministry of Labour, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Supervise and support teaching and non-teaching staff to ensure high-quality training delivery.
  • Develop annual work plans, budgets, and reports for the Institute.
  • Promote student enrolment, retention, and successful completion of training programmes.
  • Coordinate student assessments, industrial attachments, and certification processes.
  • Ensure proper management and utilization of institutional resources.
  • Lead initiatives aimed at continuous improvement of training quality and institutional performance.
  • Prepare and submit statutory and institutional reports as required.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Education or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Those with a Masters degree qualification in a related field will have an added advantage.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and report-writing abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to engage, collaborate and maintain positive working relationships with community leadership structures

Experience needed

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in a leadership or supervisory position within a vocational training, education, or related institution.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of vocational education and training systems.
  • Experience working with TEVETA, the Ministry of Labour, and other regulatory bodies will be an added advantage.
