The Job
Reporting to the Contract Manager:
- This is an exciting position in the Cane haulage equipment maintenance department based at Nchalo Sugar Estate and involves the maintenance of haulage and loading equipment. The position requires strong management skills and the ability to meet uptime targets of 94%, equipment reliability and efficiencies are a must.
- The successful candidate will be actively involved in the day-to-day technical and administrative systems.
Position also entails management of vehicle maintenance activities in a safe, productive and efficient manner with teamwork being a critical factor.
Minimum requirements: skills, knowledge and ability
Suitable candidates should have the following:
- Malawi National Trade Test Grade 1 Certificate in Diesel Mechanics or its equivalent.
Those with a Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering degree from a recognized learning institution will have an added advantage.
- Minimum of valid Class B driver’s licence.
- At least 10 years’ experience in a similar managerial position with a bias in the maintenance of ultra-heavy motor vehicle diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics and general heavy-duty plant.
- Sound hands-on auto-electrical knowledge is also a requirement.
- No previous criminal records.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills including report writing
- Be computer literate.
- Ability to monitor vehicle utilization and control of maintenance
- Exposure to fabrication technologies (boiler making /welding)
- Extensive and in-depth knowledge of maintenance philosophies for a varied range of automotive and materials handling equipment specifically: –
- Service scheduling and planning
- Tooling
- Cost and quality control
- Budgeting and forecasting
- Be in possession of a valid Class B driver’s licence. Possession of a Class EC driver’s licence will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs
- Ability to work under pressure
- Be deadline oriented
- Have good understanding of technical and financial reports of the job
- Have sound industrial relations and human capital management capabilities
- Be self-motivated and able to work to predetermined organization’s goals.
- Have sound knowledge of safety and health regulations.
Key performance Areas
- Manage the workshop team
- Develop and maintain a sound relationship with operations staff and suppliers
- Manage the fleet maintenance program
- Manage the budget vehicle maintenance costs to acceptable levels
- Manage stores stock levels and the purchase of replacement parts and equipment; and
- Working knowledge of maintaining a haulage fleet comprising of trucks, tractors, trailers and loading equipment.
