JOB DETAILS:

Welder / Steel Fabricator

Job Purpose

To carry out welding, metal fabrication and structural repairs on truck chassis, vehicle bodies, frames and other steel components while ensuring strong, accurate and safe workmanship.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform welding and steel fabrication on heavy vehicles.
• Repair damaged truck chassis and structural components.
• Fabricate brackets, frames, supports and other steel components.
• Conduct welding using appropriate techniques and equipment.
• Cut, shape, drill, grind and finish metal components.
• Read and interpret basic fabrication drawings and measurements.
• Inspect completed welds for strength, alignment and quality.
• Repair cracks, breaks and structural damage.
• Maintain welding machines, cutting tools and fabrication equipment.
• Select appropriate welding materials and consumables.
• Ensure proper preparation of surfaces before welding.
• Follow approved welding and fabrication procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organised work area.
• Observe fire prevention and workshop safety requirements.
• Safely handle welding gases, tools and materials.
• Report major structural defects to the Workshop Supervisor.

Qualifications & Experience

• Certificate or recognised trade qualification in Welding and Fabrication, Metalwork or a related field.
• Significant practical experience in heavy-vehicle welding and fabrication.
• Proven experience working on truck chassis and steel structures.
