Role Overview
African Bible College (ABC) Mission Hospital is a busy health facility operating under CHAM (Christian Health Association of Malawi), committed to providing excellent care to patients of all ages. We are seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to support efficient financial operations. The role involves maintaining financial accurate records, managing payables and receivables, reconciling accounts, overseeing cash handling, supporting audits, and assisting in financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounts Payable: Reconcile creditor accounts, Track and Process supplier invoices and payments, liaise with suppliers to resolve reconciliation discrepancies and maintain updated records of all outstanding payables.
- Accounts Receivable Reconcile debtor accounts, ensure receivables are collected within 30days, generate and review customer statements and collection reports regularly, follow up on outstanding receivables.
- Cash Management: Review daily cash deposits, reconcile deposits with system reports and physical receipts, reconcile cash for each shift, and ensure timely banking of collections, prepare summary reports for cash collected highlighting variances.
- Advances & Liquidations: Monitor staff advances and ensure timely retirements.
- Audit & Compliance: Support internal and external audits by preparing audit schedules, documentation, and participate in implementation of recommendations.
- Stock & Inventory: Conduct stock taking and reconciliations, investigate variances, and ensure accurate reporting.
- Systems Integrity: Maintain consistency between QuickBooks and Smart Health System.
- Billing & Invoicing: Verify invoices before delivery for accuracy and compliance with hospital policies.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or bachelor’s in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in accounting/finance (hospital setting preferred).
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and Smart Health System (or similar).
- Strong knowledge of reconciliations, audits, and financial reporting standards.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent analytical and reconciliation skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.
- Integrity, confidentiality, and ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
