Background

African Parks is a non-profit conservation organisation that takes on responsibility for the long-term management of protected areas in partnership with governments and local communities. African Parks manages 24 protected areas in 13 countries covering over 20 million hectares in Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Rwanda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Currently African Parks in Malawi manages Majete Wildlife Reserve, Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserves, Liwonde National Park and Mangochi Forest. African Parks – Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve invites suitably qualified, experienced and passionate Malawians to fill the following vacant positions.

POSITION: ACCOUNTS CLERK

Contract Duration: Two-year contract subject to renewal based on performance

The Accounts Clerk will directly report to the Deputy Finance Manager but also work closely with Tourism Department.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to)

  • Process customer transactions accurately using cash registers or point of sale (POS) systems
  • Receive and handle payments in cash, credit, debit, or other approved methods
  • Issue receipts, refunds, change, or transactions in accordance with company policy
  • Greet customers warmly and provide professional and friendly service
  • Respond to customer inquiries, resolve complaints, and escalate issues when necessary
  • Ensure correct pricing by scanning items and verifying product details
  • Maintain and balance the cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift
  • Monitor and report discrepancies in transactions or cash handling
  • Keep the checkout area dean, organized, and well presented
  • Assist with stocking shelves, inventory checks, and merchandising when required
  • Promote company products, services, and ongoing promotions where applicable
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and security guidelines
  • Ability to work for long periods in very remote and physically demanding circumstances at unusual working hours.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of a Malawi School Certificate of Education (or equivalent)
  • Those with Certificate in Financial Accounting or any related field will have added advantage.
  • Previous cashier or customer service experience is an added advantage
  • Basic knowledge of POS systems and cash handling procedures
  • Strong numerical and accuracy skills
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • High level of integrity and trustworthiness
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Positive attitude and professional appearance
