POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Finance Officer (CFO) will provide strategic financial leadership to the organisation and serve as a key advisor to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board on matters relating to financial stewardship, governance, risk management, capital management, and long-term financial sustainability.
This is a mission-critical executive leadership role requiring a highly capable finance professional with strong technical depth, commercial insight, governance maturity, and the ability to operate effectively at Executive and Board level.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Leadership & Stewardship
- Budget planning, consolidation, and performance monitoring
- Preparation and presentation of management accounts and financial statements
- Oversight of working capital, cash flow, and investment portfolio
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Design and maintenance of internal control systems
- Ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements
- Liaison with auditors, regulators, and external stakeholders
Board & Executive Support
- Preparation of Board papers and financial reports
- Company secretarial responsibilities and Board coordination
- Monitoring implementation of Board resolutions
Insurance-Specific Financial Oversight
- Monitoring reinsurance arrangements and recoveries
- Engagement with financial institutions, brokers, and regulators
Strategic Advisory Role
- Participation in corporate strategy formulation
- Tax planning and financial structuring
- Advising the CEO and Board on financial implications of decisions
ENVISIONED CFO SUCCESS BLUEPRINT (FIRST 12 MONTHS)
- Stabilise and enhance financial reporting and governance structures
- Strengthen internal control and compliance frameworks
- Optimise working capital efficiency and liquidity management
- Elevate Board reporting quality and decision-support capability
- Align finance strategy with business growth and profitability objectives
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or equivalent
- A professional qualification such as CA Malawi, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent professional accounting qualification
- Minimum of seven (7) years’ relevant experience, preferably within insurance, financial services, or other highly regulated environments
- Demonstrated experience in financial leadership and reporting; Governance and compliance; Strategic planning and decision support; Stakeholder and Board engagement
- Strong analytical, leadership, communication, and decision-making capability
