The company is inviting applications from qualified and experienced candidates for the position of General Building / Concrete Foreman at one of its project sites in Rumphi.
JOB PURPOSE
The General Building / Concrete Foreman will be responsible for supervising and coordinating all general building and reinforced concrete construction activities on site. The successful candidate will ensure all work is completed safely, on schedule, within project specifications, and in compliance with Malawi Building Standards, approved drawings, and quality requirements.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Site Supervision
- Supervise daily building and concrete construction activities.
- Allocate tasks to skilled and unskilled workers.
- Ensure work is carried out according to approved drawings, specifications, and method statements.
- Monitor productivity and workmanship of site crews.
- Coordinate activities with subcontractors and other site foremen.
Concrete Works
- Supervise setting out, formwork, reinforcement fixing, concreting, and curing operations.
- Ensure concrete mixes comply with project specifications.
- Inspect reinforcement before concrete placement.
- Supervise concrete pouring and vibration to achieve quality finishes.
- Monitor curing procedures to prevent defects.

- Supervise masonry, plastering, screeding, roofing, flooring, tiling, and finishing works.
- Ensure proper alignment, levels, dimensions, and workmanship.
- Monitor installation of doors, windows, lintels, and other building elements.
- Coordinate with electrical and plumbing teams to avoid construction conflicts.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Enforce compliance with the Occupational Safety, Health and Welfare Act of Malawi and company safety policies.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks.
- Ensure workers wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Identify unsafe conditions and implement corrective actions.
- Report accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly.
Quality Control
- Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Identify and rectify defects before inspections.
- Ensure construction materials meet required quality standards.
- Assist engineers during quality inspections and testing.
Materials & Equipment Management
- Monitor material usage to minimize waste.
- Request materials in advance to avoid project delays.
- Supervise proper storage of cement, aggregates, reinforcement steel, and other materials.
- Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and safely used.
Planning & Reporting
- Prepare daily work plans.
- Record daily labour attendance and productivity.
- Submit daily progress reports to the Site Engineer.
- Assist in planning weekly construction activities.
Labour Management
- Supervise artisans, machine operators, and general labourers.
- Provide on-the-job training and guidance.
- Maintain discipline among site personnel.
- Evaluate workers’ performance and recommend improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- National Trade Test Certificate or Diploma in Building Construction, Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, or a related field.
- Additional training in concrete technology or site supervision will be an added advantage.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in building and reinforced concrete construction.
- At least 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or foreman role.
- Experience on commercial, institutional, industrial, or infrastructure projects is desirable.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Sound knowledge of reinforced concrete construction methods.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and structural details.
- Knowledge of construction materials and quality control procedures.
- Understanding of Malawi building regulations and construction standards.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.

- Ability to plan work and meet project deadlines.
