The Catholic University of Malawi invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following full-time positions tenable at Montfort campus, Nguludi -Chiradzulu and St. Thomas Moore campus in Lilongwe.
Responsibilities or duties
- Gathering data from various sources including maps, drone imagery. satellite imagery and field survey
- Managing and maintaining GIS databases, ensuring data accuracy and integrity in the GIS Lab
- Conducting spatial analysis to identify patterns and relationships within geographical data
- Creating detailed maps and visualizations to effectively communicate spatial information
- Providing technical support to students, assisting with troubleshooting and training staff on GIS applications
- Conducting fieldwork to validate data and ensure accuracy of geographical information
- Providing tutorials to students in Cartography, GIS and Remote Sensing
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Bachelor of Science in Geography or Environmental Studies or related field from an accredited institution
Experience needed
- A minimum of two years of lecturing experience in a recognized institution of higher learning
- Knowledge of online lecturing and learning applications
- Experience in using cartographic software (AutoCAD, Surfer)
- Experience in using programming, GIS and database management software (SOL, Python, RStudio, OGIS, ArGIS Pro, Google Earth Engine, ILWIS) or any other mapping software
