The Opportunity

Save the Children (SC) is seeking a Human Resources Intern to support the Malawi Country Office Human Resources Team in delivering effective and compliant HR services. The role will provide hands-on support across core HR functions, including maintenance of the Human Resources Information System (HRIS), recruitment and selection processes, employee onboarding and inductions, learning and development coordination, and HR documentation and data management.

The Human Resources Intern will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely HR records, supporting recruitment activities for staff and consultants, coordinating interviews, managing pre-employment checks, and supporting staff orientation on Save the Children International (SCI) policies and procedures. The role will also contribute to learning and development initiatives, performance management processes, labour relations support, and child safeguarding compliance within HR operations.

Under the direct supervision of the Human Resources Officer, the Human Resources Intern will work closely with HR colleagues, hiring managers, finance teams, and field office staff to support effective people management across the Malawi Country Office, including the head office in Lilongwe and field offices. The role requires strong coordination, attention to detail, and adherence to SCI policies, procedures, and safeguarding standards.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and adjust working hours accordingly.

To be successful, you will bring/have: Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Industrial Psychology, or a related field.
  • 0–1 year of relevant Human Resources experience, preferably within a corporate or large INGO environment; fresh graduates with a strong interest in HR are encouraged to apply.
  • Knowledge of Malawi labour laws and HR best practices.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate HR records and documentation.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a complex and fast-paced environment and to meet deadlines.
  • Proactive approach to improving systems and procedures.
  • Commitment to Save the Children’s mission, values, and child safeguarding principles.
