Background information about the job or company

As the ICT Education Specialist, you will be the primary bridge between technology and pedagogy. You will work directly with Computer Studies teachers in multiple schools to build their confidence and competence in using modern teaching tools. In addition, you will work to bring technology integration into all subject area classrooms within our partner schools.

Responsibilities or duties

  • In-Classroom Support: Actively partner with teachers in their classrooms, providing hands-on support and co-teaching to demonstrate effective strategies for using computers and projectors in lessons.
  • Professional Development: Design and deliver engaging Continuous Professional Development (CPD) workshops for teachers. Topics will include digital pedagogy, classroom management with technology, and effective use of the Zorin Ubuntu OS environment.
  • Resource Creation: Develop, curate, and distribute high-quality, practical teaching and learning resources (lesson plans, tutorials, guides, and student activities) that are fully aligned with the Malawian ICT syllabus.
  • National Examination Preparation: Establish and implement a robust structure in partner schools to significantly boost student success in MANEB’s JCE and MSCE national examinations.
  • Zorin Ubuntu OS Expertise: Serve as the subject matter expert for the Zorin Ubuntu OS platform, ensuring all created resources are optimized for this system and that teachers are comfortable using it.
  • Mentorship & Coaching: Provide ongoing, personalized coaching to teachers, helping them overcome challenges and build sustainable technology integration habits.
  • Evaluation & Feedback: Monitor the implementation of ICT in classrooms, gather feedback from teachers, and provide reports to management to help refine and improve the program.
  • Expansion: To support and implement the expansion of the K2 TASO Computer Studies program to all Kasungu District CDSSs.

Qualifications or requirements

  • Educational Background: Bachelors Degree of Education Majoring in Computer Studies or its equivalent.
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrable, strong experience with Zorin Ubuntu OS (or other Debian/Ubuntu-based Linux distributions) is essential.
  • Classroom Experience: Proven experience as a teacher (preferably Computer Studies) OR in an educational technology support role within a school setting.
  • Curriculum Knowledge: A deep and practical understanding of the Malawian ICT syllabus and national education goals.
  • Training Skills: Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. You must be able to train and mentor adult learners (teachers) with patience and empathy.
  • Proactive & Independent: A self-starter who can manage their own schedule, travel between multiple school sites, and work independently to solve problems.
  • Language: Fluency in English and Chichewa (both written and verbal).
