Saint John of God Hospitaller Services Malawi is a non-profit, faith-based healthcare organization established in 1994 to contribute to the development of health for all Malawians, including the most vulnerable, marginalized, and excluded groups. With operations in Lilongwe and Mzuzu, the organization is a key provider of tertiary and community-based mental health services, early intervention, inclusive education for children with disabilities, vocational training, elderly care, psychosocial support, rehabilitation services, and university-level training in health-related disciplines.

The organization invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced, and motivated individuals with high ethical standards and attention to detail to fill the following positions:

ICT / Software Development Interns (2 Positions – Mzuzu)

The Position

Reporting to the Senior ICT Officer, the ICT / Software Development Interns will support the ICT Office in the development, implementation, and maintenance of digital systems, databases, and web-based applications that enhance service delivery within the organization.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Assist in the design and development of internal systems, databases, and digital tools
  • Support development and maintenance of web applications and the organization’s website
  • Participate in building and improving digital information systems
  • Gather, document, and translate user requirements into functional system features
  • Assist in system testing, debugging, and documentation of issues and resolutions
  • Support integration of systems, databases, APls, and third-party tools
  • Assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Provide basic IT support (hardware/software troubleshooting) for hospital staff and SJOG University lecturers.
  • Maintain data integrity, backups, and basic cybersecurity practices
  • Support basic network and infrastructure troubleshooting (LAN/WAN, internet connectivity)
  • Collaborate with various teams to develop simple digital solutions.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems (MIS) or related field from a recognized and accredited University.
  • Recent graduate, final-year student, or individual with relevant ICT/software development skills
  • Strong interest in software, systems, or web development.

Technical Competencies:

  • Knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, or C++)
  • Familiarity with web technologies (HTM CSS. JavaScript) and basic databases (SOL)
  • Exposure to academic or personal development projects.

Added Advantages:

  • Experience with version control tools (e.g., Git)
  • Understanding of full-stack development
  • Familiarity with frameworks (e.g., React, Node.js, Django, Flask, Laravel)
  • Basic knowledge of computer networks (LANAAN)
  • Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Exposure to APIs and system integrations
  • Experience working with Windows and Linux environments.
