OVERVIEW

St. Michael’s Guilleme Community Hospital, a Catholic institution under the Archdiocese of Lilongwe, is seeking a qualified and dedicated Laboratory Assistant to join our team.

Our mission is to ensure equitable access to high-quality, patient-centered care, guided by our core values of Love, Professionalism, Respect, Accountability, and Dignity and Diversity. Under CHAM Umbrella.

POSITION: Laboratory Assistant (L)

REPORTING TO: Senior Laboratory technician

DEPARTMENT: Clinical

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive, label, sort, and register patient specimens under supervision
  • Assist in specimen and reagent preparation for laboratory testing
  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize laboratory equipment and work surfaces
  • Ensure proper storage of samples, chemicals, and reagents
  • Dispose of laboratory waste and biohazard materials safely
  • Assist Laboratory Technicians in routine procedures
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness and orderliness
  • Monitor stock levels and report shortages
  • Record basic laboratory data and assist in filing reports
  • Transport specimens and laboratory reports within the health facility
  • Adhere to safety procedures and infection prevention standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent
  • Certificate in Laboratory Technology or Biomedical Sciences
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory safety and infection prevention
  • Good organizational and communication skills
  • Basic computer literacy is an added advantage
  • Honest, reliable, and able to maintain confidentiality.
