Job Description
An exciting and challenging opportunity is available within Old Mutual Life Assurance Company (Malawi) Limited under the Finance Department.
Applications are invited to fill the position of Management Accountant tenable in Blantyre.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial integrity, sustainability, and performance of the life insurance company. Reporting to the Head of Finance, the incumbent will oversee financial reporting, budgeting, performance management, and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. The Management Accountant will act as a key link between operational teams, actuarial functions, and providing financial insights that support strategic decision-making and long-term growth.
Financial Management & Reporting
- Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts and monthly product fund accounts.
- Coordinate quarterly, interim and annual submissions of financial results for consolidation at Group level and reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with corporate timelines.
- Draft annual financial statements in alignment with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Maintain accurate financial records to support statutory and management reporting.
- Perform detailed variance analysis to uncover key value drivers and prepare comprehensive line of business reports for the Life segment for timely submission to stakeholders.
- Manage and timely submit regulatory reports including SAM (Solvency Assessment and Management) reports.
Budgeting, Planning & Forecasting
- Develop and contribute to business planning, forecasting and budgeting processes aligned with strategic goals.
- Evaluate functional business plans for financial viability.
Financial Analysis & Business Performance
- Analyze complex financial data from multiple sources to support business decisions and performance monitoring.
- Lead financial systems changes by engaging stakeholders, identifying requirements and delivering solutions.
- Represent the finance department in client meetings, presenting financial results and addressing inquiries.
- Provide expert advice on financial policies and procedures, resolving complex queries.
- Review premium revenues per product/segment for completeness, accuracy and VAT compliance.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Support the Head of Finance to develop and maintain financial policies, guidelines and protocols to uphold regulatory standards and best practices.
- Conduct financial risk assessments and escalate findings to compliance and risk management teams.
- Enhance financial processes, systems and internal controls to improve operational efficiency.
- Monitor operational compliance and resolve noncompliance issues within finance operations.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of regulatory returns to the tax authority and other statutory bodies.
- Lead internal and external audit activities.
Treasury & Cash Flow Management
- Support investment accounting and coordination with fund managers or investment teams.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and mentor finance teams, including Operational Finance Graduates and Accountants.
- Set performance objectives, monitor team performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
Identify and address team development needs, fostering professional growth and capability building.
