ABOUT THE ROLE
Illovo Sugar (Malawi) plc, the country's leading sugar producer and part of the Illovo Sugar Africa Group (ABF), is seeking an Occupational Health Practitioner to join the Estate Support Services team at Nchalo. You will deliver occupational health services within a multidisciplinary team, promote employee wellness, and ensure compliance with occupational health legislation and internal standards.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health, Nursing, Environmental Health, Public Health, Safety, or a related health science field from a recognised institution.
- Registration with the relevant professional council or regulatory body (where applicable).
- 3–4 years’ experience in occupational health, workplace health, medical surveillance, or employee wellness.
- Advantageous certifications: Occupational Health qualification; Audiometry and Spirometry certification; training in medical surveillance, occupational health risk assessment, or workplace health management.
- Knowledge of occupational health legislation, medical surveillance, workplace health risks, and SHEQ systems.
- Knowledge of environmental and health hazards within the workplace.
- Basic computer skills.
- Valid Driver's license.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide occupational health services within a multidisciplinary team (Ergonomists, Hygienists, Safety Practitioners, HR, EAP, SHEQ, Line Managers, and external providers).
- Ensure compliance with occupational health legislation, regulatory standards, systems, and internal policies.
- Promote cross-functional engagement with HR, SHEQ, Line Management, Medical Services, and external partners.
- Model leadership behaviours – collaborate, partner, communicate effectively, and support workplace health and safety objectives.
- Foster a culture of prevention, risk identification, employee wellness, and continuous improvement in occupational health practices.
- Adhere to Illovo's policies on SHERQ, Competition Law, and Anti-Bribery & Corruption (ABC).
