Background
Lotus Africa seeks to recruit a suitably qualified and motivated individual to the post of Packaging Supervisor at Kayelekera Uranium Mine in Karonga.
JOB PURPOSE:
The purpose of this role is to provide single-point accountability for back-end product stewardship, packaging, drumming, weighing, sampling, containerisation and product readiness processes at Kayelekera Uranium Mine. The Packaging Supervisor ensures that uranium product is safely and accurately packaged, weighed, labelled, recorded, stored, sampled and prepared for outbound logistics. The role also supervises packaging operators and ensures disciplined, safe, compliant and traceable packaging and product stewardship practices.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise packaging operators and coordinate daily drumming, weighing, packaging, labelling, sampling, storage and containerisation activities.
- Ensure all product handling and packaging activities are completed safely and in line with site procedures, radiation safety, environmental, hazardous material and statutory requirements.
- Maintain accurate batch, drum, weight, sample, container, seal, permit, authorisation and product inventory records to support full product traceability.
- Coordinate with Processing, Logistics, HSE, Radiation Safety, Security, Laboratory, Supply Chain and external logistics stakeholders to ensure product, samples, containers and documentation are ready for outbound movement.
- Monitor packaging materials, drums, containers, labels, seals and consumables, and escalate shortages, defects, discrepancies or shipment-readiness risks.
- Maintain practical trackers and status updates on product readiness, packaging progress, sample status, documentation, blockers and required decisions.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- MSCE (Malawi School Certificate of Education) / equivalent.
- Proven experience in mining, processing, packaging, product handling, logistics, warehousing or a similar operational environment.
- Experience supervising operators or coordinating teams in a plant, packaging, logistics or product handling environment.
- Good understanding of drumming, weighing, labelling, inventory control, batch traceability, sample control, documentation and product handover requirements.
- Computer literate, with good Excel/tracker capability, strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure in a high-compliance environment.
- A relevant tertiary qualification will be advantageous.
