This entry-level professional specialist assists with establishing and supporting partner relationships with local evangelical churches across denominations and with other like-minded organizations. The specialist further assists with fostering relationships with potential churches and preparing them for partnership with Compassion in collaboration with other Church Facing Team members. At this level the incumbent may still be learning and assisting with partnership efforts for his or her assigned location and generally works under the guidance of her or his supervisor or a more experienced specialist or as a team member on larger projects.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
  • Acts as an advocate to raise the awareness of the needs of children. Understands Christ’s mandate to protect children. Commits to and prioritizes child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry. Abides by all behavioral expectations in Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Reports any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion’s internal reporting process and appropriately supports responses to incidents if they occur.
  • Demonstrates a personal commitment to serve, respect, and empower the church according to principles outlined in Compassion’s ministry philosophies.
  • As directed by more senior specialists in the National Office, compiles assessment or survey of geographical areas in the country to inform where new partnerships would be opened.
  • Assists with the church mobilization process, equipping all leads to participate in mobilization activities.
  • Develops a good relationship with potential church partner’s leadership. Assists the processes that build ownership with the potential churches from the beginning of the relationship in order to build a non-dependency mentality.
  • Serves potential church partners through assisting with initial interviews and assessments. Responsible for tracking required activities, follow-up, data and reporting needed to fulfill the targets for new partnerships for the given period. Assist more senior Partnership staff to provide a pool of potential church partners to the National Leadeship Team for their final selection and approval.
  • At the direction of other cross-functional specialists, follows a detailed plan for registration of new beneficiaries and the number of new beneficiary registrations (NBRs) for new partners.
  • Helps to ease the transition of the relationship to the Partnership Facilitator during the startup milestones (as determined by National Office Partnership Leadership).
  • Helps to prepare for the initial training, equipping and preparation for partnership with Compassion.
  • At the direction of the Partnership Facilitator, assists with processing requests for the Sponsorship Launch grant.
  • Contributes to efforts that increase Compassion’s visibility with potential church partners as assigned. Helps distribute in-country communication materials as needed.
  • Fosters partnerships with church alliances and denominations to maintain relationships that impact and benefit the Partnership and Growth Strategy.
  • May be asked to serve as a resource for global church planting efforts at the National Office.
  • As assigned, processes the initiation of partnerships with assigned churches as well as multiplication initiatives. Helps monitor operations and grant budgets.
  • Communicates child protection and other essential standards to potential partners and evaluates the potential partnership for alignment to these non-negotiable elements of partnership.
  • Monitors the preparation and selection process by tracking all leads through the process and communicating delays with appropriate Compassion staff.
  • Ensures the clear understanding and appropriate initial signing of Partnership Agreement.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Education

A Bachelors’ degree in Social Sciences, Development, Theology, or another relevant discipline is required.

Candidates with prior experience in Church and Community Mobilization Process (CCMP) or similar community engagement methodologies are strongly encouraged to apply.
