Background
Andiamo Youth Cooperative Trust is a local non-profit organization dedicated to empowering communities by creating access to education, healthcare, social inclusion, and development, sports, and cultural opportunities. In partnership with Be That Girl Foundation, AYCT is implementing scholarship and mentorship programmes for young girls in need of support at Andiamo Secondary School, with the aim of empowering them to lead self-determined lives.
The Pathway Centre Coordinator will help set up and manage the Pathway Centre at the Andiamo Youth Cooperative Trust NGO in Balaka. The Centre will support adolescent girls as they move from secondary school into further education, employment, or small business opportunities.
The Coordinator will help design the pilot, build local partnerships, and manage the day-to-day work of the Centre. This includes supporting career coaches and mentors, making sure activities are useful and well organised, and keeping records and reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design of work-readiness and life-skills activities for girls and young women.
- Monitor progress and suggest improvements during the pilot phase.
- Build and maintain partnerships with schools, TVETs, universities, employers, microfinance institutions, incubators, and local businesses.
- Support links with local business groups and other organisations to create internship, apprenticeship, and work placement opportunities.
- Work with local stakeholders to increase opportunities for the girls supported by the Centre.
- Manage the daily running of the Pathway Centre at the Andiamo campus.
- Support and supervise staff, coaches, and mentors working at the Centre.
- Make sure the Centre is safe, welcoming, and respectful to all girls and young women
- Ensure safeguarding, confidentiality, and gender-responsive services are followed.
- Keep records of Centre activities and reporting.
- Prepare regular reports and use feedback to improve the Centre’s work.
Essential qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences, development studies, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in youth empowerment, education access, career services, or NGO programme management.
- Good understanding of the Malawi education and skills development context.
- Ability to build relationships with employers, education institutions, incubators, and microfinance providers in Malawi.
- Experience managing teams and working with different stakeholders.
- Experience working with adolescent girls or vulnerable young people.
- Familiarity with coaching, life-skills training, or entrepreneurship support programmes.
- Good written and spoken English and Chichewa.
Desirable
- Experience supervising daily operations of a youth centre or similar facility.
- Growth mindset, initiative, and willingness to learn.
- Good emotional intelligence and ability to work well with adolescent girls from different backgrounds.
- Commitment to gender equity and safeguarding.
