We are looking for ambitious, experienced, and highly motivated individuals to join our dynamic team in the following position tenable at the Supply Chain Department in Blantyre.

PURPOSE

To lead, govern and control procurement and commercial aspects of all major construction, infrastructure, and capital projects, while providing direct support to the Supply Chain Director and the Head of Procurement on all construction and capital-related procurement activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Supply Chain Director, the Procurement Manager (Construction & Capital Projects) will be responsible for carrying out the following duties among others:

  • Lead procurement activities for large construction, infrastructure, and capital projects, from planning to project close-out.
  • Develop and implement project-specific sourcing strategies for contractors, consultants, and specialist suppliers.
  • Coordinate prequalification, sourcing, evaluation, and selection of contractors and consultants in line with approved procurement policies.
  • Review, challenge, and validate Bills of Quantities (BOQs), specifications, and scopes of work with Engineers and Consultants.
  • Evaluate contract submissions, pricing structures, cost build-ups, and commercial risks prior to contract award.
  • Ensure all contracts comply with Malawi construction industry provisions, applicable standards, and internal governance frameworks.
  • Manage consultants on BOQs preparation, cost estimates, variations, and claims, ensuring accuracy and value for money.
  • Control and validate variations, interim valuations, claims, and final accounts, challenging unjustified costs and scope creep.
  • Conduct and participate in on-site evaluations, technical clarifications, and scope verification meetings with Engineers and project teams.
  • Enforce project cost control and budgetary management, tracking commitments, forecasts, and actual spending against approved budgets.
  • Support Finance and Project Teams with cost reporting, cash flow forecasting, and commercial risk assessments.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by standardizing project procurement processes, contract templates, and cost control practices.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate should have at least the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Civil Engineering, or Quantity Surveying.
  • Those with Master of Business Administration or related master’s degrees will have an added advantage.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role in a busy industrial and construction set up.
  • Must be a member of the Malawi Institute of Procurement and Supply Chain (MIPS).

  • Ability to handle work pressure situations.
