OVERVIEW

Sangalala NGO is an international and locally registered NGO working to improve the lives of children and communities through education, nutrition and community development.Malawi business directory

We are currently looking for a motivated, organised and proactive Volunteer Project Coordinator to support the implementation and coordination of our project in Masinja Ngombe near Likuni.

The Project Coordinator will work closely with the team in Malawi, local community, suppliers, contractors and other stakeholders to support the development of our education and community projects, including the construction and development of the school and other community facilities.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support:

  • Weekly coordination of activities at the Masinja Ngombe project site.
  • Planning, implementation and monitoring of NGO projects.
  • Logistics and procurement, including identifying reliable and cost-effective suppliers in and surrounding areas.
  • Obtaining and comparing quotations and supporting purchasing processes.
  • Coordinating the delivery and availability of construction and project materials.
  • Monitoring materials, stock, equipment and other project resources.
  • Communicating with suppliers, contractors, community members, staff and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting community meetings and maintaining positive relationships with the local community.
  • Maintaining accurate project records, documentation and reports.
  • Supporting project budgets and monitoring expenditure.
  • Monitoring project progress and identifying challenges or delays.
  • Supporting the preparation of project proposals, grant applications and fundraising.
  • Researching potential funding opportunities and supporting donor communications.
  • Providing regular updates to the NGO management team.

Essential Requirements

Applicants should:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, community development, Logistics or a related field.
  • At least 2 years experience working on project implementation, specially on rural areas
  • Be fluent in both Chichewa and English.
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be highly organised, responsible and able to work independently.
  • Have good planning, problem-solving and coordination skills.
  • Have computer skills and the ability to prepare reports and project documentation.
  • Demonstrate a genuine interest in education, community development and working with local communities.

The following would be a strong advantage:

  • Previous experience working in education,
  • Knowledge of local suppliers, shops and construction-material markets in Likuni and surrounding areas.
  • A valid driving licence and access to a car or motorbike
  • Living in or around Likuni, or another nearby area.
