The Officer will oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of field-level interventions, ensuring that project activities such as irrigation expansion, seed revolving schemes, livestock pass-on programs, and financial inclusion initiatives are effectively implemented, monitored, and aligned with AIM’s mission to foster sustainable and inclusive livelihoods.

This position demands a values-driven, community-oriented professional who can thrive in a dynamic, resource-constrained environment while driving tangible impact.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Implementation and Coordination

  • Facilitate the establishment and strengthening of 50 producer groups, 5 clusters, and 6 irrigation groups.
  • Oversee rollout of the soybean seed revolving scheme across Clusters 3, 4, and 5—ensuring quality control, fair distribution, and proper repayments.
  • Support expansion of irrigation and horticultural production to 10 hectares through the provision of pumps and drip kits.
  • Coordinate the goat pass-on program and ensure adherence to pass-on agreements for equitable household benefit.
  • Promote 100% adoption of home gardens to enhance household nutrition and resilience.

2. Market and Value Chain Development

  • Conduct market assessments and facilitate buyer–seller forums to strengthen linkages between farmers and structured markets.
  • Support the establishment of aggregation centres, promote good post-harvest handling, and encourage value addition for horticultural and grain crops.
  • Link farmers to digital market information systems for real-time access to prices and demand trends.

3. Capacity Building and Community Empowerment

  • Organise training sessions for farmer groups on good agricultural practices, seed quality assurance, record-keeping, and entrepreneurship.
  • Strengthen seed management and cluster-based committees for quality assurance and accountability.
  • Facilitate the formation and strengthening of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and link them to microfinance institutions.

4. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

  • Collect and compile field data using AIM’s SMILER-based M&E tools.
  • Support quarterly field monitoring, reviews, and participatory reflection meetings.
  • Prepare timely progress reports, case studies, and success stories for learning and donor reporting.
  • Track progress against the project’s results framework and performance indicators.

5. Coordination and Collaboration

  • Liaise with local authorities, extension officers, and partner organisations for coordinated implementation.
  • Represent AIM in district-level coordination meetings and stakeholder platforms.
  • Promote inclusion of women, youth, and HIV/AIDS-affected households in all project interventions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or a Diploma in agriculture, Agribusiness, Development Studies, or a related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in community-based agricultural or livelihoods project implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-component rural development projects.
  • Familiarity with irrigation systems, seed management, livestock production, and financial inclusion (VSLAs).
  • Strong facilitation, report writing, data collection, and community engagement skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and field-level data management tools.
  • Fluency in English and Chichewa.
  • Must possess motorcycle riding skills and hold a valid motorcycle license.

Key Competencies

  • Self-driven, innovative, and results oriented.
