Mamaland, a Mota-Engil Group company, is dedicated to the development and maintenance of sustainable systems through a more inclusive approach, with the aim of generating Prosperity for the Planet and for People. The MoRe Project is a large-scale initiative, with an expected duration of 40 years, focused on forest restoration and sustainable development in Malawi. The project aims to restore 555,000 hectares of degraded land through reforestation, agroforestry, and assisted natural regeneration, while promoting the active involvement of local communities. Through this approach, MoRe seeks to generate long-lasting environmental, social, and economic benefits, contributing to ecological resilience and the well-being of populations.
Responsibilities or duties
Within the scope of the MoRe Project, the SHEQ Technician will be responsible for ensuring the implementation and monitoring of the Integrated Management System (Quality, Environment, Safety and Occupational Health), guaranteeing compliance with legal, regulatory, contractual, and internal requirements. This professional will play a key role in promoting a culture of safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement throughout all project phases, with a particular focus on forestry and plantation operations.
- Develop, implement, and monitor policies, procedures, and practices aligned with the SHEQ Integrated Management System;
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment), and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) standards;
- Guarantee compliance with legal and contractual requirements applicable to project activities, including sector-specific forestry legislation;
- Monitor and supervise forestry operations (land preparation, planting, maintenance, and harvesting), ensuring environmental and safety best practices;
- Identify and assess risks associated with forestry activities (use of machinery, fieldwork, fires, exposure to natural agents), proposing preventive and corrective measures;
- Coordinate SHEQ training, awareness, and information actions for workers, field teams, and subcontractors;
- Conduct internal audits and regular inspections in forestry contexts, identifying non-conformities and proposing corrective and preventive actions;
- Ensure management and control of SHEQ technical and operational documentation;
- Prepare performance reports and SHEQ indicators, ensuring reporting at contractual, project, and market levels;
- Promote sustainable practices in forest management, including biodiversity conservation and soil and water resource management;
- Support the implementation of forest fire prevention and firefighting plans;
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, local communities, and regulatory authorities.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Certification as a Senior Occupational Health and Safety Technician (CCP) (preferred);
- Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills;
- Analytical profile, with a strong sense of responsibility and adaptability to fieldwork and multicultural environments;
- Ability to work under demanding conditions (terrain, remote locations);
- Collaborative leadership, teamwork skills, and strong sustainability orientation;
- Availability for mobility and to work in rural/remote areas.
Experience needed
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Safety, Environment, and Quality roles, with strong preference for experience in forestry, plantation, agroforestry, or large-scale environmental projects;
- Proven experience in forestry operations (planting, maintenance, harvesting, and/or sustainable forest management);

- Knowledge of applicable environmental and forestry legislation;
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards;
- Familiarity with forest certification schemes (e.g., FSC, PEFC) (preferred);

- Fluency in English (mandatory);
- International driving license (preferred);
