OVERVIEW

Marymount Catholic Secondary School was opened on 29th January, 1963. The school is located on the Southern part of the plot of land owned by the Catholic Diocese of Muzu. It is situated along the Chimaliro Road, about eight Kilometres from the hub of Muzu City. Although the school is based in Mzuzu, its catchment area covers all districts in Malawi.

SCHOOL ELECTRICIAN

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate will be answerable to the School Manager through the Operations Manager Administration. He/She will be responsible for:

  • Install, inspect, repair, and maintain the school’s electrical systems.
  • Carry out routine preventive maintenance of electrical equipment.
  • Repair electrical faults promptly to minimize disruption of school operations.
  • Maintain generators and backup power systems.
  • Inspect classrooms, hostels, laboratories, offices, and staff houses for electrical safety.
  • Install and maintain security lighting.
  • Keep maintenance records and submit reports to the Maintenance Supervisor or Operations Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
  • Recommend replacement of worn-out electrical equipment and materials.
  • Respond to emergency electrical breakdowns.

Educational Qualifications

  • Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent.
  • Trade Test Certificate Grade I or Grade II in Electrical Installation or Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ practical experience in electrical installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Experience working in a school, hospital, or other institutional environment will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in troubleshooting electrical faults and preventive maintenance.

Knowledge and Technical Skills

The candidate should have knowledge of:

  • Electrical wiring and installation.
  • Preventive and corrective maintenance of electrical systems.
  • Generator operation and maintenance.
  • Solar power systems (where applicable).
  • Electrical safety standards and regulations.
  • Reading and interpreting electrical drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Installation and maintenance of lighting systems, sockets, circuit breakers, and distribution boards.

Personal Attributes

The candidate should:

  • Be honest and trustworthy.
  • Demonstrate integrity and professionalism.
  • Be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be physically fit and willing to work outside normal hours when emergencies arise.
  • Be a team player with good problem-solving skills.
  • Have high attention to detail.
  • Ability to use basic computer applications for reporting (added advantage).
