Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Ensuring that consent forms have been signed and patients have been prepared properly for surgical procedures.
- Ensuring that all necessary instruments for surgery have been prepared and are readily available.
- Providing instruments and assisting surgeon during surgical procedures.
- Taking responsibility for surgical instruments, equipment, linen and swabs after the surgery.
- Ensuring that sterilization of surgical instruments is done appropriately.
- Offer support and assess the patient’s condition during post-anaesthetic period and ensure surgical patients can be safely discharged back to a ward.
- Adhering to standard precautions of infection prevention and control practices.
Educational qualifications experience and attributes
- A minimum of a college diploma in nursing and midwifery from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 3 years practical experience in an operating theatre at a busy hospital.
- High level of work organization.
- Must be registered and in good standing with Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi.
