OVERVIEW
The Catholic Development Desk of the Diocese of Karonga is inviting qualified candidates to fill the following vacant positions:
Position: WASH Interns (2)
Project: Community Transformation (CT)
Location: Kopakopa & Jalawe
Reporting to: WASH Coordinator
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Mobilize communities to participate in the WASH project activities;
- Facilitate formation and training of project structures including water point committees, sanitation entrepreneurs, village health promoters etc.;
- Supervise construction or rehabilitation of water networks/schemes, gravity flow systems, wells or boreholes;
- Mobilize targeted households or communities to construct improved pit-latrines or other sanitation facilities at household level;
- Conduct hygiene and sanitation promotion and education campaigns;
- Creation and training of community management structures;
- Conduct water related disease prevention campaigns;
- Promote water treatment at household level;
- Come up with and document project success stories and lessons learnt;
- Networking with other stakeholders within the project impact area;
- Participate together with other staff in regular review planning, reviews and coordinating of project activities;
- Provide and submit work plans and field reports.
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of a Diploma in WASH related fields (public health, water and sanitation, environmental health).
- Must have at least 1-year experience working with WASH related projects.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Have good public presentation skills;
- Good communication skills; ability to communicate in English, Tumbuka and other local languages in the project impact areas;
- Ability to draft report, and develop budget for project activities.
- Practical knowledge in word processing, excel and PowerPoint presentation.
- Ability to travel to all project areas periodically and work off working hours when needed.
- Knowledge in motor-cycle riding will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of the Catholic Social teachings is a must.
