Responsibilities or duties
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain physical security of petty cash.
- Disburse funds only for approved, legitimate business expenses.
- Verify and document every disbursement using receipts and petty cash vouchers.
- Keep an up-to-date petty cash log or ledger.
- Reconcile the petty cash fund regularly.
- Report discrepancies or policy violations immediately.
- Request replenishments when required and prepare supporting documents.
- Enforce compliance with the Petty Cash Policy.
- Assist customers with inquiries, product information, and basic service needs.
- Operate cash registers, POS terminals, and payment systems.
- Ensure correct pricing for all items being sold.
- Reconcile the day’s transactions with the POS report at the end of the shift in the presence of the Assistant Accountant.
- Prepare cash for daily deposit, ensuring it is reconciled and ready for banking.
- Secure the cash drawer and POS terminal at all times.
- Assist customers with return requests by verifying the sales receipt and checking the return is within the 3-day policy.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Adminstration, or related field.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in work.
Experience needed
- Proven experience as an Accounts Assistant or similar role, preferably in the retail or distribution sector for a minimum of 5 years.
- Proficiency in Sage Evolution 200 and MS Office, particularly Excel.
