ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Our Client, Standard Bank, in partnership with Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), is seeking to recruit a high-caliber Accountant to support the delivery of the AGRA Phuka Incubation Project.

This is a mission-critical role within a flagship agricultural development initiative designed to:

Strengthen over 2,500 agri-SMEs

Expand access to finance and markets

Enable the creation of 20,000 sustainable jobs

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring robust financial stewardship, donor compliance, and real-time financial insight to support programme execution and impact.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Stewardship & Reporting

  • Prepare donor-compliant financial reports
  • Maintain audit-ready records
  • Monitor budgets and flag variances
  • Perform bank reconciliations

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Support budgeting and reforecasting and ensure budget compliance in all financial transactions
  • Track and analyse burn rates to inform decision-making

Transaction Processing & Controls

  • Manage AP/AR processes – Process payments, reimbursements, and supplier invoices in line with financial policies
  • Enforce documentation controls
  • Maintain vendor records

Compliance & Audit

  • Ensure compliance with AGRA, donor, and national financial regulations
  • Support internal and external audits
  • Maintain audit readiness

Systems & Controls

  • Maintain accounting records using approved accounting software
  • Strengthen internal controls
  • Improve processes

Grant Oversight

  • Review partner / sub-grantee financial reports for accuracy and compliance
  • Conduct financial capacity assessments and training for implementing partners
  • Monitor grant utilization and ensure alignment with grant agreements
  • Support partner capacity building

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in Accounting/Finance or related field
  • ACCA/CPA preferred
  • 3-5 years donor-funded/project accounting experience
  • Knowledge of IFS and donor compliance requirements
  • Proficiency in accounting systems (e.g. QuickBooks, SAP, Pastel, or similar)

  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and complex stakeholder environments
  • Ability to work under pressure

REPORTING STRUCTURE

Reports to: Finance Manager / Project Manager / Head Enablement

Location:

Standard Bank Head Office (Field travels will be required)
