Job Overview
The Accountant will manage day-to-day financial operations, financial reporting, regulatory reports, ensure accurate recording and reporting of all financial transactions, and support budgeting, forecasting, compliance functions as well as HR and Administration functions. The role will also support external audits as well as Reserve Bank inspections and ensure adherence to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day financial operations of Freedom Financial Services Limited
- Record, post, and approve all financial transactions, including payment requests, cheques, and electronic transfers
- Prepare payroll accurately and ensure statutory deductions and PAYE remittance to MRA
- Prepare budgets, monitor implementation, analyze variances, and provide recommendations
- Prepare and submit monthly financial performance reports to the Managing Director and Board.
- Manage cash flow to ensure liquidity for operations and budgeted activities
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning in liaison with Operations department and the Managing Director
- Monitor compliance with procurement policies and guidelines
- Ensure integrity and proper operation of the accounting system
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and reconcile financial records
- Support regulatory inspections and external audits by providing required documentation
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in accordance with IFRS
- submission of regulatory reports in liaison with the Managing Director
- Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time by your supervisor
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum of a Diploma in Accounting (Bachelor’s degree in Accounting will have an added advantage)
- Minimum of 2–5 years of relevant experience in microfinance or financial sector
- Strong proficiency in accounting software, QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas
- Excellent numerical accuracy, attention to detail, and analytical skills
- High integrity, professionalism, and trustworthiness
- Results-oriented, hardworking, and able to meet deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
