The Agricultural Research and Extension Trust (ARET) is Malawi’s premier institution in tobacco research, extension and training services. An opportunity has arisen for highly motivated professionals with requisite academic qualifications and technical expertise to fill existing vacant posts that have arisen in ARET as follows:
Responsibilities or duties
- General leadership and supervision of Accounts staff.
- Perform general ledger reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records.
- Maintain and reconcile cashbooks on a monthly basis
- Prepare and process journal entries in line with accounting standards.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance
- Manage and monitor accounts receivable, including debt collection and reporting
- Assist in the month-end close process, including preparation of schedules and reconciliations.
- Provide support during the year-end audit, including preparation of audit schedules and responding to queries.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial documentation and filing systems
- Assist in the proparation of management accounts and financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and assist in preparation of statutory returns (eg. PAYE, withholding tax, fringe benefit tax).
- Contribute to the preparation of budget monitoring reports and variance analysis
- Provide support in the implementation of financial automation systems and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with other departments to provide financial insights and ensure smooth operations.
- Process foreign exchange transactions.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Bachelor of Accountancy from well recognized university.
- Progress towards achieving a professional qualification such as ICAM is an added advantage
- Strong knowiedge of basic accounting principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Integrity and commitment to professional ethics
Experience needed
- Atleast five years work experience in a busy accounting office.
