Illovo Sugar (Malawi) plc is a leading sugar producer in Malawi.
Responsibilities or duties
- Implement sustainable agronomic practices to close yield gaps.
- Support adoption of best practices, frameworks, and standards.
- Manage sugarcane agronomic trials (crop nutrition and protection).
- Formulate and monitor fertilizer, weed control, and ripener programmes; manage 3rd party contractors.
- Manage estate nursery fields, monitor seed quality, and conduct disease inspections.
- Manage pests and diseases in commercial and nursery fields.
- Support agronomic optimization through new technologies and continuous improvement.
- Monitor trends and refine practices; comply with Quality and Safety standards.
Qualifications or requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture / Crop Science / Agronomy.
- Formal business/commercial qualification (advantageous).
- 5 years’ experience in sugarcane agriculture.
- Research-oriented with experience in agronomic trials.
