JOB DETAILS:

Illovo Sugar (Malawi) plc is a leading sugar producer in Malawi.

Responsibilities or duties

• Implement sustainable agronomic practices to close yield gaps.
• Support adoption of best practices, frameworks, and standards.
• Manage sugarcane agronomic trials (crop nutrition and protection).
• Formulate and monitor fertilizer, weed control, and ripener programmes; manage 3rd party contractors.
• Manage estate nursery fields, monitor seed quality, and conduct disease inspections.
• Manage pests and diseases in commercial and nursery fields.
• Support agronomic optimization through new technologies and continuous improvement.
• Monitor trends and refine practices; comply with Quality and Safety standards.

Qualifications or requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture / Crop Science / Agronomy.
• Formal business/commercial qualification (advantageous).
• 5 years’ experience in sugarcane agriculture.
• Research-oriented with experience in agronomic trials.
