JOB OVERVIEW

The Assistant Accountant will support the school’s financial management by maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, reconciling accounts, and ensuring smooth day-to-day financial operations while preparing financial information for reporting and auditing.

THE ROLE

  • Prepare and process staff salaries.
  • Make timely payments to suppliers.
  • Assist in managing the school’s approved budget and expenditure.
  • Prepare financial reports for external audits.
  • Support the development of the school’s financial strategies.
  • Issue official receipts.
  • Reconcile accounts payable and receivable.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations, including taxation and auditing requirements.
  • Maintain proper filing of accounting records and electronic databases.
  • Attend school management meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) with Credit passes in Mathematics and English.
  • Diploma in Accounting or Finance from a recognized institution.
  • Previous experience in a similar position will be an added advantage.
  • Must possess a valid National ID.

KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Accuracy and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
