Background
African Parks is a non-profit conservation organisation that takes on responsibility for the long-term management of protected areas in partnership with governments and local communities. African Parks manages 24 protected areas in 13 countries covering over 20 million hectares in Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Rwanda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Currently African Parks in Malawi manages Majete Wildlife Reserve, Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserves, Liwonde National Park and Mangochi Forest. African Parks – Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve invites suitably qualified, experienced and passionate Malawians to fill the following vacant positions.
POSITION: BUILDING SUPERVISOR
Contract Duration: Two-year contract subject to renewal based on performance
The Building Supervisor will report directly to the Field Operations Manager.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
- Must have technical experience in construction industry.
- Exhibit Leadership skills
- Be able to read construction drawings
- Prepare Bill of Quantities that are realistic and accurate
- Manage and oversee the day-to-day construction works and manage the projects.
- Ensure that the building projects are completed timely and efficiently.
- Making sure that all building materials are available on site and that are used efficiently.
- Be prudent with resources and being watchful that theft is not tolerated.
- Perform any other duties related to building construction as required by the management.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong personal integrity and dependability.
- Ability to be organized, flexible, self-motivated and work effectively with minimum supervision.
- Ability to work for long periods in very remote and physically demanding circumstances at unusual working hours.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Diploma in civil engineering with 5 years’ experience
- Grade 1 Trade Test Certificate in Brick laying with 10 years’ experience with minimum qualification MSCE
- Must be registered with National construction industry council.
- Must be computer literate
- Those with a valid driver’s licence will have added advantage.
