Responsibilities or duties

  • Providing strategic, administrative, technical and operational leadership to ensure safe, reliable, efficient and uninterrupted electricity generation.
  • Coordinating and supervising all department functions to ensure efficient operations, regulatory compliance, optimal resource utilization and continuous improvement in service delivery.
  • Fostering a high performance organizational culture through effective leadership, accountability, employee engagement and sound people management practices.
  • Leading the formulation, implementation, and monitoring of departmental business plans in line with approved corporate objectives and budgets.
  • Coordinating the preparation and management of the departments capital and operational budgets to ensure prudent utilization of resources.
  • Developing and overseeing implementation of maintenance, rehabilitation and modernization of the power plant.
  • Developing and monitoring departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
  • Leading the preparation, review and execution of annual preventive maintenance schedules in line with operational requirements and business plans.
  • Developing, reviewing and enforcing maintenance policies, procedures, standards and best practices aimed at promoting operational excellence, reliability and continuous improvement.
  • Monitoring station expenditures and implementing effective cost control measures to enhance operational efficiency and value for money.
  • Ensuring availability and effective management of critical spare parts, tools, equipment and maintenance resources necessary for efficient operation of the power plant.
  • Providing technical advice to management on matters relating to thermal power generation and maintenance.
  • Planning and supervising major overhauls, inspections and component replacements for the generating plants.
  • Leading diagnosis and resolution of complex mechanical and electrical faults on generators and balance-of-plant equipment.

Qualifications or requirements

  • Holder of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering obtained from a reputable and accredited institution.
  • Should be registered with Malawi Institute of Engineers.
  • Should have the ability to work effectively with teams and tight deadlines.
  • Should be aged between 35 and 50.

Experience needed

  • Should have 10 years post qualification experience as an Engineer.
  • Should have at least 8 years’ experience in Diesel Power Plant maintenance or heavy-duty Diesel engine maintenance.
  • Should have strong knowledge of Diesel engine thermodynamics, generator systems and balance-of-plat equipment.
